CAPE COD AND THE LIES WE WERE TAUGHT INSCHOOL

Were we taught “American History” or were we taught “lies in School?”

All history is taught from one point of view and the facts are often left out to make a point of view valid. It is not that the history is wrong, it is just missing all the facts, which gives us a different perception.

Every School child is taught about the “Shot heard round the World at the North Bridge in Concord, Ma.” How much of this story is fact, how much fiction, and do you know the rest of the story?

Do you know why General Gage sent the troops to Concord? In September of 1774, Boston Patriots brazenly stole four brass cannon right from under British guard. The cannons were smuggled out of Boston and added to the growing caches of Colonial arms. Brass cannons were more valuable as field artillery than iron because they were lighter and more maneuverable. Those with Brass Cannons controlled the battlefield. In April, Gage ordered the expedition to Concord for the purpose of retrieving the brass cannons as well as the 10 other iron cannon’s that were reported to be hidden in Concord, Ma.  The troops were ordered not to fire on British Subjects and only when they were attacked did they fire back. The story of April 19 was a result of General Gage not being able to admit that the most sophisticated weapons of the time were stolen from his arsenal. This would be comparable to a nuclear weapon being taken from a US arsenal today.

Did you know Paul Revere never owned a horse or made the “Midnight Ride?” Paul Revere borrowed a horse, he was stopped 8 miles outside of Boston, the Horse was confiscated and Paul Revere walked back to Boston. Other riders completed the famous midnight ride. There were two Paul Reveres who became one character in history.

Did you know the American Forces lost the Battle of Bunker Hill?

Did you know that the shot heard round the world MIGHT HAVE BEEN an accident, where a scared kid dropped his musket and it went off?

Did you know the Pilgrims did not believe in Religious freedom but religious intolerance? If you did not have the same belief system you were not welcome.

Did you ever wonder how Squanto spoke English when the Pilgrims arrived?

There is a statue of Mary Dwyer on the grounds of the Massachusetts Statehouse. Mary Dwyer was hung for expressing Quaker beliefs in a Puritan Colony. Why does she now have a statue on the grounds of the statehouse?

What really happened at the Boston Massacre and how many were killed?

During the Boston Tea Party was Boston Harbor filled with tea?

During the Tea Party why were the raiders dressed like Indians?

Why did the American Revolution begin in 1775 not two years earlier when Newport Harbor was blockaded?

Why is the USS Constitution called Old Ironsides?

Did you ever wonder why during the Civil War, why the first black regiment lead by white officers came from Massachusetts, and not from the border states?

If the Wampanoag’s had not brought food and the Pilgrim’s had not raided other native villages, their would be no feast or Plimoth Colony. Overnight Hyannis  with a Lobster dinner.
