Day 1: We depart New England and head west to Cooperstown will you will have the opportunity to visit the baseball hall of fame. This is sure to be a delight for any sports fans. For those not interested in baseball you will find Cooperstown is filled with quaint shops and we will offer an optional fall colors boat cruise. In the afternoon we will continue on to Ithaca New York. We continue on to the Finger Lakes Wine Center for a wine tasting session and educational overview on wine production in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. Tonight we feature our dine as you please program where you can dine at the restaurant of your choice, using “Downtown Dollars” at the Ithaca Commons. Ithaca was awarded #6 in the search for “America’s Foodiest Cities” sponsored by Bon Apetit magazine in September of 2010. Dinner included.
Day 2: After breakfast we depart for Ithaca Falls, where the falls drop 150ftand have a width of 175 ft. Along the south bank you can still see the ruins of mills that used the falls as a power source in 1817. The plunge pool is famous among anglers for lake-run trout and salmon. Our next stop will be a visit to one of the many wineries in the area where you will have the opportunity taste and learn about the Finger Lakes Wines. We continue with a drive through and tour of the Cornell Plantations. The department of Cornell committed to preserving and enhancing the diverse horticultural collections and natural areas of the campus. A picnic box lunch will be provided for the group to enjoy at the Plantations. You have thre choice of visiting the Ornithology Museum or the Botanical Gardens. We drive through the campus, heading to Six Mile Creek Winery with its lovely setting, including panoramic valley views overlooking the vineyard, ponds and gardens. A new line of distilled specialties, including Vodka, Limoncella and Grappa add to the tasting experience. We will return to the hotel in the afternoon to freshen up before viewing the Taughannock Falls overlook. The falls carves a 400 ft. deep gorge through layers of sandstone, shale and limestone that were once the bed of an ancient sea. Taughannock falls is three stories higher than Niagara Falls. In the afternoon we will visit Buttermilk Falls before going to the Theater for a night of dinner & theater. (when theater is unavailable dinner will be in a winery with entertainment.) Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner included. Day 3: On the way home we will board the Rip Van winkle flyer for a relaxing two hour and fifteen minute excursion that will include lunch. with spectacular scenery as you travel through the Catskill Mountains The friendly, service-oriented staff works diligently to create a luxurious, memorable ride. The Flyer is a favorite choice of anyone looking to experience the elegance of yesteryear. Breakfast & Lunch included.
