The Charm of Historic Savannah & Charleston


Day 1: Savannah is where your vacation begins. Transfers from the airport to the hotel will be provided.
This afternoon our tour begins with a visit to the Savannah Theater  After the show dinner will be at Johnny Harris a restaurant that was once a dance hall and famous meeting spot. Johnny Harris is known for their award winning sauces. Dinner

Day 2:
T
he day begins with breakfast at the hotel before joining a local guide for a tour of historic Savannah. On your tour you will learn about the siege of Savannah, why Savannah was spared on Sherman’s march to the sea, the cotton industry and the development of the Georgia Colony. Before lunch you will have time to shop on River Street and visit the Candy Kitchen. This afternoon we will feature lunch at Mrs. Wilkes where you will be served lunch family style featuring southern cuisine. Next it is on to Ft Jackson where the history and life of the Civil War will come alive through period interpreters. The stories that are told will help you understand the living conditions at this period of history. For those that are hungry we will visit a local restaurant for a light meal Perhaps tonight you would like to walk across the Street to Lulu’s Chocolate bar which was voted the best desserts in Savannah in 2010. Breakfast and Lunch

Day 3:
After a hearty breakfast we will be joined by a local guide for where you will step back in time and explore the history and culture of Savannah and her people A stop will be made at the Byrd Cookie Factory or a tour and a tasting.Tonight we will feature dinner at the Crystal Beer Works known for their sruptious food and large asortment of beer. We will skip dessert at the restaurant and head to Leoupolds for a little movie magic history and home made icecrean. Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 4:
After breakfast we will depart Savannah for the city of Charleston. It will take us about two hours to get to Charleston. Our first stop will be the Charleston Tea Plantation the only tea plantation in the USA. You will learn about the growing and harvesrting of tea as you travel the plantation by trolley.. On the tour knowlwedge of how tea is processed, the difference between black tea, green tea and flavored teas, the proper way to make tea will all be imparted. In the afternoon a horse drawn carriage ride through the historic district. will sure to delight you. ( should the weather be cold or inclimate a local guide will step on board the coach. aBreakfast and Dinner.

Day 5:
Our day begins with breakfast and a visit to Magnolia Plantation which alive with color in the spring when the azaleas, rhododendrons and magnolias bloom. You will discover what plantation life was like as Magnolia Plantation has survived the centuries and witnessed the history of our nation unfold before it from the American Revolution through the Civil War and beyond. It is the oldest public tourist site in the low country, and the oldest public gardens in America, opening its doors to visitors in 1870 to view the thousands of beautiful flowers and plants in its famous gardens. So join us here at Magnolia Plantation to experience the beauty of its gardens and its rich history today. One of the highlights of the day will be the nature train ride where you experience history and wildlife on this action-packed tram tour of the plantation’s wetlands, lakes, forests, and marshes. Naturalist guides help you spot alligators, turtles, egrets, and herons in native habitats. You never know what you might see. One minute you’ll glimpse an alligator sliding off a bank and the next you’ll turn your head to catch a great blue heron spearing a fish, and as you ride through the landscape, guides bring its history to life. From a row of slave cabins to 19th century rice ponds and a Native American ceremonial mound that evoke the plantation’s complex past. The tour will bring to life the true landscape and culture of the old South. With more than 600 acres of wildlife habitats and gardens, it can be difficult to see everything there is to see on foot. The nature train allows you to view a large portion of these wonderful areas in an entertaining and educational way. This evening we have a unique learning experience in store for you as we visit the Maveric Kitchen’s for a hands on demonstration. Low Country Cuisine is the cornerstone of coastal South Carolina heritage. We learn about Low Country Cuisine and enjoy generous tasting of regionally based recipes and sipping a glass of wine. Come enjoy the tastes of history and the entertainment. The menu is Smoked Pork Chops with Bourbon apple Chutney, Goat Cheese Mashed Sweet Potatoes, Orange Rice Pudding with Macerated Peas and Cranberries. Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 6: Th
is is our final morning to enjoy the magic of Charleston, stops will be made at the Fort Sumter Vistors Center and historic market St before departing for home. Breakfast.

Cancellations within 75 days of departure will result in a loss of your deposit. Cancellation within 60 days will result in a 25% cancellation penalty, within 45 days a 50% penalty, within 30 days, a 75% penalty, and within 7 days, no refund.
Cancellation insurance is available for individuals and groups.
