With stunning lush landscapes, exotic plants, dormant volcanoes, hot springs, and surrounded by clean waters, São Miguel is the perfect vacation destination for adventure seekers and those looking for an off-the beaten path European destination.

 

Fans of adventure sports will enjoy kayaking and stand up paddle-boarding in the beautiful lakes or ocean, surfing the Atlantic waves or canyoning down the gorgeous waterfalls around the island. Go hiking and explore the island’s wonders on foot with the mighty Atlantic as the background. Discover hidden beaches and marvel at the many waterfalls around the island. If this isn’t tantalizing enough, think about seeing Earth breathing through fumaroles and mudpots, and then enjoying a relaxing soak in a natural hot spring gazing at the stars.
Enjoy the island’s quaint fishing villages, seaside restaurants and delicious seafood. Taste a superb meal cooked under the ground, the cozido, and the locally grown sweet pineapple. Day 2:  After clearing customs we will stop for a breakfast break before departing the airport. Rooms will not be available before 3 pm.

Explore the wonders of Sao Miguel’s Furnas Valley on this informative tour, including lunch. Visit the island’s famed ceramic factories, snap memorable photos at Caloura, Vila Franca Do Campo and Furnas. See Furnas lake and the surrounding hot springs and indulge in a traditional Sao Miguel lunch of ‘cozido,’ a rich stew cooked by thermal vents underground. You won’t want to miss the tea factory and the Ribeira Grande City with its beautiful architecture. On the way to the hotel visit the Tea Plantations, the only place in Europe where you can see a tea factory and tea plantation. This afternoon we will check into the hotel situated on the Marina.

Day 3

Optional pineapple plantation tour and Volcanoes $75
Start the tour with a guided tour of a pineapple plantation followed by a complete visit to the Sete Cidades located on the west side of the island São Miguel. Stop in places with magnificent views and so can explore much of the largest volcanic complex existing on the island. The highlights include the Seven cities Lake and other small lakes (Canario e Santiago). After the lunch, visit the Fire Lake, and stop in the Natural Park of the Caldeira Velha, before to visit the citie of Ribeira Grande and to taste the famous regional liqueurs of the Sao  Miguel (passion fruit and blackberry).

Option whale and Dolphin Cruise $90
Search for whales and dolphins along the southern coast of the Azores on a 2- to 3-hour wildlife watching trip from Ponta Delgada. Optional Botanical Gardens and swim in a volcanic hot spring pool $86
On this tour we feel and experience the volcanic origins of the Island in Furnas, a magical place. We start by visiting the Caldeiras da Lagoa das Furnas (Furnas Lake Calderas), a place where we cook the famous “cozido das Furnas” (a very special meal cooked only with the steam of the Earth) and continue with a soft walk that crosses a stream and circles the lakeside. During this walk we have the opportunity to appreciate a variety of endemic flora species. Next we visit the town of Furnas, with its fumaroles and hot springs that contain water with different tastes. The Cozido meal is served in a local restaurant. After lunch we visit the centenery Terra Nostra botanical garden that is famous for its extraordinary collection of native plants on the Azores, as well as others from all over the world that have adapted to the local garden conditions. At the end of the visit you are invited to bathe in an iron-rich hot water swimming pool that has a temperature of 35-40ºC, an exquisite experience!
